2020 Bright Idea Award Winner
Theresa Bubak, Cozad Community Health System
The Nebraska Healthcare Marketers Bright Idea Award for 2020 was presented to Theresa Bubak for the ASK A DOC campaign conducted by the Cozad Community Health System.
From Theresa: "When COVID-19 emerged, public awareness was an obstacle we all faced but many adults are afraid of looking silly so they won’t ask even the most basic questions regarding COVID. So, assuming most kids love to see themselves on video, we developed our video series: ASK A DOC. Kids were urged to submit a video of them asking a medical question, then we would have our providers answer the questions. We first rolled it out on August 6, 2020. It turned out FANTASTIC!! The kids enjoy coming up with new questions (it started out as all COVID questions but has really evolved into good medical questions like “why do I have to get shots before kindergarten? How do you hear my heart thru your stethoscope?” ) and the providers all really enjoy answering back! On Thursday afternoons, if I had not posted an ASK A DOC video on our facility Facebook page, I would get texts from the community and staff asking it they had missed a release. We acquired a great following on this video series (averages between 3,000-4,500 views) and have more videos still to be released. I have to give kudos to our facility IT leader, Jamion who listened to my idea and his young son, Rugor who was our videographer and editor. I have the best colleagues and they're always very patient with me and my crazy ideas! Our providers were very generous with their time and wanted to be prepared to give honest answers to the children. When we received a submission in Spanish, one provider gladly answered the question in Spanish. I am so proud of and grateful for the team at CCHS".
The video of questions and answers can be found on the Cozad Community Health System Facebook page (scroll to August 2020 posts). Stills from these videos are in the gallery on the right side of this article.
